CoolSculpting

Cool Sculpting or cryolipolysis, was the most used procedure in the United States in the year 2018 to remove fat from a person’s body. This is a non-invasive procedure done by freezing the fat cells to death. The body eventually removes the dead cells and fat effectively reducing that stubborn fat that you were not able to remove with exercise.

What is CoolSculpting?

In a normal liposuction procedure, markings are made on the body where fat has to be removed. Small incisions are made through which a cannula is inserted and the fat is then melted and removed. Whereas in CoolSculpting, no incisions are made. It is a totally non-invasive procedure. The procedure works on the fact that the fat cells die when freezing temperatures are applied while other cells in the body don’t. So, a special device is used to freeze (to death) the fat cells in the areas required.  Typically the procedure takes about an hour and you can go to work the very next day. However, the body usually takes around 6 months to get rid of the frozen (and dead) fat cells from the body.

How much fat can be reduced by CoolSculpting?

Around 20% fat can be removed from the frozen site with CoolSculpting/cryolipolysis procedure.

What is the cost of CoolSculpting procedure in Chennai?

CoolSculpting costs around Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 1,00,000 in Chennai hospitals. The cost of the procedure varies depending on the following factors:

  1. The area that needs to be covered during the surgery.
  2. The experience of the plastic surgeon you choose. More the skilled and experienced, the more the charges, usually.
  3. The hospital / clinic where the procedure is being performed.
  4. The number of sessions necessary to get rid of all the fat that you want to go away.

Note: CoolSculpting is a cosmetic procedure. Most health insurance providers will not be covering the costs for cosmetic procedures. Check with our insurance department or your provider for more information.

CoolSculpting – does it really work?

CoolSculpting procedure has seen good success and satisfaction from patients who underwent the procedure. The fact that there is no incision made and zero chances of infections is what is pulling patients to undergo the procedure rather than liposuction.

Important thing to note is, CoolSculpting doesn’t remove fat as much as liposuction. If you are really obese and want to undergo this procedure, you may not see much results like liposuction. If you have worked out and want to get rid of only the stubborn fat like that at the love handles, you will be the best candidate for CoolSculpting.

Side effects of this procedure

  1. Temporary loss of sensation in the area. This should return later.
  2. Swelling and a little bit of bruising can be seen. This should also go away in a few weeks.
  3. A little bit of pain is normal. You may not need pain medication but if your doctor thinks so, you may be put on adhoc pain medication.

  • Does CoolSculpting affect fertility?

No. CoolSculpting does not affect fertility, even in the case of women. What you need to note is, undergoing CoolSculpting procedure before pregnancy or when you have plans to get pregnant in the future is not the right thing to do. If you are a woman and are sure that you don’t have plans to get pregnant in the future, you can go for any kind of fat removal procedure.

  • Does CoolSculpting hurt?

Yes, CoolSculpting hurts after the procedure, but that’s only a little. You can easily manage with or without pain medication.

  • Does CoolSculpting tighten skin?

No. No fat removal procedure tightens skin and CoolSculpting is no exception. If you are not too old and if your skin still has enough elasticity and if only a little bit of fat is removed, then the skin can tighten itself over a period of time but the procedure itself doesn’t tighten the skin.

  • Does CoolSculpting work on belly fat?

Yes. Fat from any area can be targeted with CoolSculpting. Your plastic surgeon will be able to tell you if the procedure is right for the area you are targeting and what you can expect after the procedure.
